Which calculator do you need?
The five loan calculators share the same engine but ask different questions, because each kind of borrowing has a different trap. Pick by what you are financing:
| If you are financing | Use | What it shows that others hide |
|---|---|---|
| Borrowing against your house | Home Equity & HELOC | The payment jump when the draw period ends, and how much you can really borrow |
| A boat, yacht or PWC | Boat Loan | What a 15 or 20-year marine term costs in total interest |
| A camper, trailer or motorhome | RV Loan | Why the dealer's payment is higher than your estimate |
| Raw land, a lot or farmland | Land Loan | The balloon payment left owing at maturity |
| A motorcycle, scooter or ATV | Motorcycle Loan | What your credit tier is actually costing you |
One number is not enough
Almost every loan calculator online answers a single question: what is the monthly payment? That is the number a dealer, a broker or a lender wants you looking at, because it is the one that can be made to look small. Stretch the term and the payment drops. It is the total that grows.
Every calculator here gives you the rest of the picture on the same screen — the total interest over the life of the loan, the full month-by-month amortization schedule, and the specific thing that goes wrong with that kind of loan. A land loan that quietly balloons. A HELOC whose payment doubles in year eleven. An RV term so long the rig is worth less than you owe for most of the decade.
You can export any schedule to CSV, or print it as a PDF. There is no sign-up, no email form and no credit check anywhere on this site.
How the math works
Payments use the standard amortization formula, and the calculators step through the loan one month at a time rather than taking a shortcut. That is what makes it possible to apply extra payments straight to principal, stop a schedule at a balloon date, switch a HELOC from interest-only to amortizing, and land the final payment exactly at a zero balance.
Every calculator is covered by an automated test suite that runs before any change is published. The tests check each formula against independently calculated values and confirm that the figures printed in the articles still match what the calculator returns. More on the method and how the numbers are checked.
Text tools
The site also publishes four small text utilities that work the same way — instantly, in your browser, with nothing uploaded: a word counter, a character counter with live limits for X, SMS and meta descriptions, a case converter, and a words-to-pages converter.
What this site is not
Results are estimates for planning and comparison, not financial advice. HardCalc is not a lender, a broker or a financial adviser. We do not take applications, we do not pass your details to anyone, and nothing you type into a calculator is transmitted or stored — it is all computed on your own device. Your actual rate and terms come from a lender, based on your credit, income and the asset. See our terms of use.
